A GIFT FROM THE KITCHEN

Updated: Mar 10, 2021

I want to share with you a gift idea from the kitchen. I hope it is something you can use and brings you as much joy as it has brought me.

First, I went through my recipes the family had given me through the years. Then I reached out to women in my daughter’s life since it was a gift for her. I wanted the recipe in each woman’s own handwriting. I combined new and old recipes. Some of the recipes I have had for over thirty five years, some were written by down by the women when I explained my project. As you can see in the photo some even had spills on them and were worn.

My goal with this project was to give my daughter a gift that made her feel and know. Everytime she looks at the recipes hanging on her wall I want her to feel the love and support she has in her life. I want her to know of the strong women that had lived before her and those that lead by example today. I want her to see they are survivors and so is she. I want her to feel comfort when she looks at her gift.

I attached a card to her gift that read:

This gift represents the love and support you have in your life. The women represented on this recipe board are all strong, Godly women just like you. It is only a representation of women because there are many more, too many to fit in a frame! All of these women love you! Some take care of you from heaven and the others do so now. Everyone was excited to send a recipe and be part of your gift. The people and experiences you have in life help to shape you. I think we have all done a great job! We love you!

My daughter was a young adult when I gave her the gift. I thought she would like the gift but it might be a few more years before she really appreciated it. I was so wrong. She absolutely loved it! She cried when she opened it. The gift accomplished its purpose, it made her feel and know! She tells me it is one of her most treasured possessions.

The women that were involved in sending recipes couldn’t wait to hear what she thought about it. I sent them pictures of the letter and the final project. It was fun for all of us involved and we had a good reason to reconnect. I like to think the women in heaven enjoyed watching the whole thing, too. I hope this project is something you do someday and it brings you as much joy as it did for us.
