I love to use things, when decorating, that are meant for some other use. It is a very inexpensive way to add character to your home. It also allows you to surround yourself with what you love or what means something to you. I have been fortunate to have inherited some dishes from my grandmothers. The vintage dishes are not expensive but they mean a lot to me. I enjoy seeing them throughout my house. I will also pick up something at a thrift store or vintage store if I really like it.
I use my vintage glassware and dishes everyday for our meals. Everyday should be a special occasion. One of my favorite things to do is to look at pieces and try to come up with some other use for them.
Some of the pictures are of a decanter used to hold bath salts, plates and a cake stand as a jewelry holder, a glass dish for my paper clips, soaps, wash cloth, and to hold the kitchen sink drainer. I think vintage silver plated teapot sets are so pretty as planters. One of my all time favorites is the hymnal holder from the back of the church pew. It has been used for office supplies for my desk and soap and wash clothes in the bathroom. I am continuously adding to my repurposed decor!
I am always looking for new ideas. What items have you repurposed?
This is my grandmother's chair. She covered it in a scrap of linoleum to make it last. When she passed away no one in the family wanted it. I used it in a previous home to sit on at my vanity. Now it holds towels for guests.
